Chemical Peels are specialised treatments that are applied directly onto the skin. They refresh the appearance of the skin by removing the damaged outer layers by exfoliation. Karen Bowen Dermal Therapist offers a wide range of specialised chemical peels that contain active ingredients designed to address a variety of skin concerns including; acne, pigmentation, freckles, scarring, ageing skin, fine lines and wrinkles.

The highly skilled team will tailor a treatment plan consisting of professional chemical peel that will address your individual skin concerns. Karen Bowen offers light superficial peels for refreshing the skin, as well as medium depth chemical peels such as Mesoestetic Cosmelan and Mesoestetic Dermamelan for treating pigmentation, melasma and sun damage. Vitamin A anti-aging peels, and advanced acne peels will also improve skin concerns.

Upon consultation Karen Bowen and the team will provide information on how to effectively prepare the skin for specific chemical peels. High quality dermal products may be required to provide adequate nutrition to the skin pre-and post-peel. Following the application of a chemical peel, thorough after-care is provided to ensure optimal results.

What does a chemical peel feel like?
Depending on the active ingredients some peels will feel warm, hot, prickly, slight stinging. Other peels you may feel very little when it is on the skin. A fan is often used to make the process more comfortable.

How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on the skin concern that you are treating. For some peels a recommended course of regular monthly peels are required. With others, you may only need 1-2 applications of the professional peel to achieve the desired result.

What will my skin feel/look like after the peel?
Chemical peels typically cause mild localised erythema (redness) which can last 1-14 days depending on the specific peel. More advanced peels may cause erythema for 4+ weeks. Some individuals may experience mild localised oedema (swelling). Flaking and peeling of the skin is typical following a chemical peel and is the shedding of dead skin cells. Following a peel, every client is provided with specific after-care instructions to ensure optimal results.
