Hair Reduction - IPL

Effective Intense Pulsed Light Laser Treatment

IPL hair reduction works by administering a specific wave length of light into the skin. The light is absorbed by the pigment present within the hair, and damages the hair follicle and stunts hair growth. Studies have shown that the best results are achieved on a client who has dark hair and fair skin. Patients that have darker skin types, or fair hair can receives treatments, however they will require a greater number of treatments to achieve the desired result.

Patients with blonde, red, grey, white hair will not achieve an ideal result as the lack of pigment within the hair cannot be detected by the light.

At Karen Bowen Skin Clinic, the highest quality, medical-grade equipment is used; Lumenis. The Lumenis Aesthetic Division originates from Israel, and is a global leader in energy-based aesthetic devices. Lumenis is a pioneer in the field and was the first in the world to introduce IPL. Karen has trained with Dermatologist Dr. Mitchel Goldman, the inventor of IPL.

To ensure the safety and comfort of all clients, we follow a strict protocol that every new client must undergo a “test patch” using the Lumenis equipment prior to receiving a full treatment. During this initial appointment, you will be able to discuss a treatment plan with our team to ensure we achieve the optimum results for you. Our therapists will instruct you on how many treatments you will require and the time frame between each treatment. Karen Bowen Dermal Therapist requires every client to adhere to specific after care instructions to ensure patient comfort and safety.

What does IPL Hair Removal feel like?
Many clients describe the feeling as being similar to an elastic band flicking on the skin. Following the treatment, the area may feel warm and slightly sensitive (similar to sunburn).

How many sessions will I need?
Every client will require a different number of sessions. It all depends on the colour, thickness and density of the hair. At the time of your “test patch” the therapist will be able to advise you as to how many sessions you may require.

Is hair removal permanent?
Yes, providing that there are no changes to your hormone levels. Significant changes to hormone levels, such as pregnancy, menopause, hormone therapy, may have an impact on hair growth.
